Palm Oil Refining Processes<\/h3>\n

The small-scale refining process generally involves four core steps to remove impurities, odors, and colors from crude palm oil:
\nDegumming: Phosphoric acid or hot water is added to the crude oil to coagulate and remove gummy substances like phospholipids.
\nDeacidification (Neutralization): An alkaline solution (e.g., sodium hydroxide) is added to neutralize free fatty acids (FFAs), which are then separated as soapstock.
\nDecolorization (Bleaching): The oil is treated with activated clay or carbon under vacuum to adsorb pigments and other impurities, which are then removed via filtration.
\nDeodorization: High-temperature steam is injected into the oil under high vacuum to strip away unpleasant odors and volatile compounds, resulting in a bland, stable oil.<\/p>\n
